Attenuated Emergency Stoppage

Blacktail is a new style of hoisting machine that uses wire rope for the lifting medium and incorporates a newly patented idea for lifting objects using the principles of zero fleet angle winch design that always lifts the load in exactly the same position.

All lifting machines possess an inherent problem because of the potential for an immediate uncontrolled stoppage due to the sudden loss of power, or an emergency stop initiated by the operator or an automated system. Such a stoppage, referred to as a Category 0 E-Stop, results in excessive brake forces being applied to the support structure, the lifting machine itself, as well as the object being lifted.

Blacktail Hoist provides an Attenuated Stop Function so excessive forces resulting from a sudden stop are reduced to a manageable level. A sudden stop resulting from the abrupt removal of operating power, an emergency or other uncontrolled event is accommodated without the generation of excessive forces that would otherwise occur from a rapid deceleration occurring in the system.

This important feature of Blacktail Hoist protects building structures against damage and personnel against injury that might otherwise occur upon rapid deceleration resulting from a loss of power.
